Who we're looking for:

Rover is looking for an experienced and energetic VP, Deputy General Counsel to act as a strong # 2 to our General Counsel, leading key legal and risk management areas and working cross-functionally with multiple departments across the organization. In this role, you will be a key leader within the legal team, supporting the growth of a talented group of professionals (who, it must be said, have a lot of fun along the way!). As our ideal candidate, you have substantial experience in an AGC, DGC, or other in-house senior leadership roles, with the gravitas that comes from such experience, as well as strong business acumen and subject matter depth in a number of substantive legal areas. You love getting things done and want to make a big impact on our business, our mission and our culture, all of which will be affected and shaped by the person hired into this role.

Your Responsibilities:

Oversee legal and regulatory support across multiple key areas, such as human resources, international expansion, compliance, intellectual property, and/or litigation. Develop and implement legal strategy to support growth and mitigate risk, including by driving our enterprise risk management program. Lead and support strategic corporate transactions as needed, including finance and M&A activity. Lead and develop an excellent team of legal professionals. Foster growth, development and diversification of the legal team to meet the changing needs of the organization. Act as a thought partner to the General Counsel with regard to legal strategy and company policy. Perform other responsibilities and special projects to support Legal team goals.

Your Qualifications:

J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school Licensed (or license pending) attorney qualified to practice in Washington State 12+ years of legal practice (with 6+ years spent in-house) Experience managing legal teams in an in-house environment Subject matter expertise in at least some of the following areas: corporate compliance / governance, litigation, employment, UK and European law, mergers and acquisitions, IP, and/or privacy and information security Experience in a publicly traded emerging growth company strongly preferred Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal issues and provide clear advice to senior leaders and others Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment Voracious learner who can integrate knowledge with practice Exceptional judgment and personal integrity. This position is in our Seattle office, but you must be able to work remotely from home until offices fully reopen
