Job Description: The Natural Resources Section has an opening for an attorney interested in practicing environmental law, which provides advice and representation to the Department of Natural Resources and Parks (DNRP).
The attorneys in the Natural Resources Section work together to support DNRP’s four major divisions:
The Solid Waste Division, which provides garbage transfer and disposal and recycling services in unincorporated King County and 37 cities;
The Wastewater Treatment Division, which collects and treats wastewater from 34 local agencies serving approximately 1.7 million residents.
The Parks and Recreation Division, which manages more than 200 parks and 175 miles of regional trails;
The Water and Land Resources Division, which provides flood control services, storm water management, and other natural resource management services throughout the County. Additionally, the section is representing the County in the Lower Duwamish Waterway and East Waterway Superfund cleanups.

Job Duties
The attorney who fills this vacancy will primarily support the Parks Division. Advising matters will include contract drafting and interpretation, real property issues, drafting and interpretation of the Park Division code, and advising on Parks’ Levy issues. In addition to advising, the deputy will also represent DNRP in litigation, including encroachment removal actions affecting Park Division properties, enforcement of the Park Code and other Park Division rules and regulations, and other matters, as needed.
The work associated with this position will be hybrid telecommuting, with onsite work and meetings, as influenced by business needs. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
