The Office of Law Enforcement Oversight (OLEO) seeks an Investigations Monitor to lead and manage OLEO's investigations program. This position monitors, supervises, and leads investigations of the King County Sherrif's Office.

Job Duties
Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.

Successful candidates for this position will be able to clearly demonstrate skill and ability to:


Support and enforce OLEO's equity and social justice values and objectives, both in operation and OLEO work product and priorities.
Conduct investigations, including investigative strategizing, collecting evidence, and conducting interviews.
Establish best practice policies and protocols for OLEO's investigations program.
Analyze the results of internal investigations to assess compliance with policies and internal protocols.
Review critical incidents involving police actions, including attending incident scenes.
Provide assistance to OLEO's community advisory committee and prepare public reports.
Collaborate with internal and external partners.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

The ideal candidate will have a passion for and understanding of researching, and applying laws, codes and policies.


A law degree from an accredited college or university AND 5 years' experience in legal, investigatory, or analytical capacity including two or more years in a supervisory role.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

Strong experience in making recommendations regarding the resolution of complaints and allegations of wrongdoing.
Ability to research, understand, interpret and apply applicable laws, codes, and policies.
Legal knowledge and expertise related to criminal justice, police practices, procedures and investigatory standards.
Well-developed human relations skills, including the ability to engage with disenfranchised communities.
Ability to collect, evaluate and interpret a broad range of complex data, either in electronic, written, statistical or narrative form.
Productive and cooperative relationship making skills with those encountered on work-related matters, including elected officials, the media, County employees, representatives of other governmental agencies and the public.

This position is a salaried, at-will, overtime-exempt classification that is not eligible for the county Career Service system. The standard workweek is 35 hours. Non-traditional work hours and travel throughout King County may occasionally be required.

TELEWORKING
The work associated with this position will be performed predominantly in a hybrid work environment, working in the office and at home. Employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
