Our Programs and Services Division (PSD) has a unique remote work opportunity for an attorney with excellent interpersonal communication skills both orally and in writing to join our team as the Hearings Manager within the Hearings and Interviews Unit.

As our Hearings Manager, you will lead a team of Hearings Examiners as you manage the Unit’s Civil Rights Act and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation program. With equitable access to our proceedings as your priority, you will provide training to employees and serve as a resource regarding the interpretation and application of non-discrimination statutes and rules. Your leadership skills will be relied upon as you direct, coach, and train your team while simultaneously facilitating and supporting process improvements. Some of what you will do:
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with the external representatives within the communities that we serve, including drivers experiencing housing instability, tribal communities, minor drivers, unrepresented and underrepresented populations.
Influence and affect the positive performance and accomplishment of those supervised, both directly and indirectly, within their program area.
Facilitate and support process improvement efforts, with an emphasis on any processes that affect marginalized communities disproportionally.
Develop strategies to improve workflow and collaboration between Operations staff and Legal staff.
Develop and apply meaningful standards for the collection of Hearings Examiner data and collates these statistics for management to make data – driven decisions within projects and program areas.
Conduct administrative hearings as needed.
What you will bring:
Graduation from an accredited school of law with J.D. degree.
Admission in good standing to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.
Five (5) years of full-time legal experience.
Experience must include:
Two (2) years focused on civil rights, disability, working with marginalized and underrepresented populations.
Two (2) years of experience as a supervisor of attorneys and other legal professionals, including direct human resource management.
One (1) year employee engagement experience, such as team building, change management, and facilitating dynamic feedback.
Proven ability to promote and foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace and work force.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ethics and integrity.
Demonstrated team-orientation with excellent management and interpersonal skills, exhibiting the ability to listen, understand, analyze, and respond to stakeholder, customer, management, programmatic, and employee needs.
What may set you apart:
Two (2) years of experience as an attorney practicing administrative law, as a member of an administrative tribunal empowered to issue findings of fact and law or an attorney with experience practicing criminal law.
Diversity and equity specialized training and credentials.
Human resources experience in recruitment, onboarding, and leadership development.
Accountability, personal initiative, strategic thinking, planning, and vision.
Demonstrated knowledge of or background in state financial and/or budgetary requirements.
