The Civil Division is soliciting applications for a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in the Contracts Section.

The Contracts Section provides legal advice to the County departments on a wide range of issues related to municipal finance, the procurement and administration of contracts for goods, services, and information technology products, and the construction of and design of public works. Attorneys in this section also review and edit contract documents, negotiate contract terms, and handle disputes related to contract interpretation and enforcement, which may include Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and some litigation.

Job Duties
In addition to procurement related issues, attorneys in the Contracts Section also provide general legal advice to several County client agencies including the Office of Performance, Strategy and Budget (PSB), the Superior Court Clerk’s Office (officially referred to the Department of Judicial Administration or DJA), the Treasurer’s Office, Superior and District Court Judges, King County Elections, King County Council Auditor’s Office, Metro Transit Equal Employment Opportunity Office and the King County Office of Equity and Social Justice.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
The Civil Division is looking for applicants with great client relations skills, excellent communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and accomplished negotiation and litigation skills. Applicants should be able to thoroughly understand and analyze complex legal issues while also being able to work with clients, colleagues, and others to find practical solutions to complicated legal problems. The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to Equity and Social Justice, including the development of personal cultural competency. Through working with others in the Contracts Section, the successful applicant will be able to further develop subject-matter expertise.

Applicants should have at least five (5) years of relevant legal experience, demonstrate a strong potential for growth, and should be prepared to assume immediate responsibility for a fast-paced practice.

Special Requirements:

Member in good standing with the Washington State Bar.
Must submit to a criminal history check, to include fingerprinting.
U.S. Citizenship (per RCW 36.27 and 29A.04 and Article VI of the WA Constitution).


Salary: $94,123.54 - $149,126.43 depending on experience. This is an exempt position.

This position is open to external candidates and all current and regular deputy prosecuting attorneys on staff. For current PAO attorneys, this would be a lateral transfer.
