Bilingual Staff Attorney - Farm Workers Unit, Northwest Justice Project

Agency Name: Northwest Justice Project

Position / Job Title : Bilingual Staff Attorney - Farm Workers Unit

Location: Yakima or Wentachee

Category : Attorney

Job Description: Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is seeking an attorney to advocate for farmworker survivors of workplace sexual harassment and crime as part of the Campesina Digna project. This position is part of the Farmworker Unit (FWU), a statewide unit within NJP that provides legal assistance to low-income agricultural workers throughout Washington. The Campesina Digna project integrates legal education, litigation, empowerment of farmworker women, and increased access to victim services to secure justice for survivors of sexual harassment, create a safe work environment for all farmworkers, and ultimately change the culture of the agricultural industry in rural Washington communities by ending tolerance for sexual violence in the workplace. The position will work as part of a larger team of Farmworker Unit advocates within NJP and will collaborate as part of a broader team of attorneys serving farmworker communities within the Washington Alliance for Equal Justice. The lawyer will work with farmworker communities and community organizations serving farmworkers to support protection from and prevention of workplace sexual harassment. NJP staff are currently working remotely, but expect a return to office sometime during 2022. It is preferred that this position be located in NJP’s Yakima or Wenatchee office to facilitate in-person client and community communication. Proposals to work from other locations within Washington State will be considered if the applicant has the ability and commitment to travel to Central Washington regularly. This is a full-time regular position covered by NJP’s Collective Bargaining Agreement. NJP requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Providing proof of COVID-19 vaccine is a condition of employment. Exemptions based on medical and sincerely held religious beliefs may be requested per NJP’s EEO employer policy.
