The Fred Hutch Office of General Counsel seeks an experienced, skilled, versatile, and strategic attorney to serve as Associate General Counsel. The Associate General Counsel will report to and be overseen by the Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment, but will also work with the other members of the legal and professional staff to provide high quality and timely legal services to the Fred Hutch organization in a wide range of legal matters.

Responsibilities:


The Associate General Counsel’s primary duties and responsibilities will include supporting the Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment, as assigned, in providing legal advice and counsel to organizational units and Human Resources on labor & employment matters. The Associate General Counsel will also prepare and review documents such as employment contracts, collective bargaining agreements, position statements, legal briefs, policies, and related correspondence.

The Associate General Counsel also will support the other attorneys in the Office of General Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel on a broad range of topics including academic scientific research; Compliance, Ethics & Integrity; health care; intellectual property; technology commercialization; real estate; conflict of interest; privacy; and philanthropy.


Qualifications:

-A juris doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
-A minimum of five (5) years of experience practicing as a licensed attorney in-house or at a law firm.
-Membership in good standing of the Washington State Bar or active State Bar license in good standing with ability to gain admittance to the Washington State Bar within one (1) year of hire.
-A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of labor & employment law.
-Exceptional written and oral business-communication skills.
-Ability to attend in-person meetings on campus in Seattle on day-of notice.
-A high level of integrity.
-Excellent analytical ability and demonstrated ability to identify and resolve potential legal issues.
-Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
-Ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism, accountability, discretion, judgment, accuracy, diplomacy, and tact.
-Ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues, administrators, scientific staff and third-party research collaborators and sponsors.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and cultivate an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment, and to treat all people equitably in a culturally competent manner.
