Apply to Serve on the LBAW Board of Directors

LBAW is always looking for energetic, talented, and committed people to serve on its board of directors.  In accordance with LBAW's bylaws the members of the Board of Directors are elected by the members during the annual meeting.

Below please find a list and brief description of Board positions that are elected by the membership.

President-Elect:  The President-Elect is elected to serve for three years. The first year the board member serves as President-Elect.  The second year the board member serves as President of the Board.  The third year the board member serves as Past-President.  The job of the President is to preside over regular meetings of the Board, as well as to serve as the public face of LBAW, and to authorize LBAW's business.

Secretary:  The Secretary is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duties of the Secretary are to record and maintain the minutes of Board meetings, as well as to maintain the legal status of LBAW.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duties of the Treasurer are to create LBAW's budget, to provide financial reports to the Board, and to ensure that LBAW complies with relevant tax laws.

Vice President of Communications: The V.P. of Communications is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duties of the V.P. of Communications are to publish information about LBAW to the public and to membership, as well as to maintain LBAW's social media presence.

Vice President of Programs and Membership:  The V.P. of Programs and Membership is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duties of the V.P. of Membership are to conduct the membership meetings, to maintain the membership database, and to address membership concerns.

Vice President of Development:  The V.P. of Development is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duty of the V.P. of Development are to direct LBAW's fundraising efforts.

Vice President of Social and Banquet Planning: The V.P. of Socials is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duty of the V.P. of Socials is to plan the annual Gala, as well as monthly happy hours.

Vice President of Eastern Washington:  The V.P. of Eastern Washington is elected to serve for two years.  The primary duty of the Eastern Washington Representative is to provide input and to organize events on behalf of LBAW members who live east of the Cascades.

Vice President of Judicial Evaluations:  The V.P. of Judicial Evaluations (JEC) is elected to serve for two years.  Currently there are two chairs that serve staggered terms.  The JEC Chair is responsible for administering judicial evaluations of candidates for judicial appointments or those seeking election. 

Director of Clinics: The Director of Clinics is elected to serve for two years. The primary duty of the Director of Clinics is to plan, coordinate, and oversee the Western and Eastern Washington free legal clinics.

How to Apply to Serve on the LBAW Board 

The 2017 LBAW Annual Membership Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2.

The following Board positions will be elected this year:

President-Elect
Treasurer
Secretary
Vice President of Communications
Vice President of Events and Banquets
Vice President of Eastern Washington
Vice President of Judicial Evaluations (1 position)

According to the by-laws, only current members in good standing may be considered for Board positions. This means that before you are elected, you must be a paying member of LBAW for 2015.  If you are not sure if your membership is current, you can either login to the Members area of the website in the top right corner of the webpage using the email associated with your LBAW account, or contact the V.P. of Programs and Membership to verify your membership status.

The application must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday October 27.  Please note that mailed applications must be received and not just postmarked by Friday, October 27 as well.
